As a certified pediatric sleep coach, I am passionate about helping families solve their sleep problems. If you need help teaching your little one to sleep in his own bed rather than yours each night, working through short naps or early morning wakings, night weaning, setting up good sleep habits, figuring out a good schedule that works for your family, removing sleep props, etc. - I'm here to walk you through the entire process, step-by-step. I provide detailed, personalized sleep plans to my clients, along with daily support, advice, and encouragement. When you purchase one of my sleep packages, you don't get a vague, generic booklet to download and try to sift through to find what advice applies to your situation. You will be emailed a complete personalized plan, customized for your child and your family, based off of your intake form and the personal appointment you have had with me to discuss in detail what your needs are.
In your sleep plan, I tell you what our goals are, what to expect, what your schedule and routine should look like, how to handle any problems that arise, etc. I also give a detailed explanation of how to handle the bedtime routine, night wakings, naps, early morning wakings, etc. You will have my contact info, and be able to update me every day for an allotted amount of weeks, on how sleep training is going. You will be able to text me in the middle of your bedtime routine to ask questions or gain clarification. If you need support or are struggling with the process, you will have my support and encouragement, as well as access to resources that will educate you further. Knowledge is power, and I am all about empowering parents!
I work hard to provide plans that are in accordance to your specific parenting style, and to make sure that you are comfortable with every step of the process. I do not endorse or teach Extinction Method (also known as Cry It Out, or CIO). That said, I unfortunately cannot guarantee a tear-free process. With parenting, there are often times that you are required to encourage your child in a direction that they are resistant to, and the result is tears. That doesn't mean you are being cruel, or doing the wrong thing. It is a natural response of a child to cry in protest to change or to become upset at disruptions in how things are usually done. Many babies are very resistant to tummy time. Does that mean that you do not provide any tummy time whatsoever, or that you are a cruel or neglectful parent if you lay them on their stomachs for a period of time as they fuss? Absolutely not. You are doing what is in their best interest. You do not need to leave them while they are on their tummies, and you can do things to make it easier or less upsetting for them, but ultimately, whether they enjoy the exercise or not, it needs to be done every day. You would never say, “Well, he/she will decide to do tummy time when they are developmentally ready” or “It may damage our bond for my infant to be struggling through tummy time if I continue”. Sleep training is much the same. It is very easy to unintentionally allow babies and children to form bad sleep habits that are hard to undo. It is in their best interests to help them break those bad sleep habits early so that they (and you!) can get a full night of uninterrupted sleep. Well-rested children are happy children! While some tears are often unavoidable, I will never encourage harsh methods or methods that you have made it clear that you are uncomfortable with. As a parent myself, I will never encourage methods that I would be uncomfortable carrying out with my own child.
